PORTRAITS

The process of portraiture gives the artist permission to reach a balance between realism and distortion. These drawings express this artist’s point of view of the persons being depicted. Ceil views herself as an human specimen and her self portraits are her field notes. Similar to scientific study, Ceil paints the objects, landscapes, cityscapes, gestures, facial expressions in these paintings “live.”

A Couple Notes from Ceil:

“I wanted a martini glass in my “Party Girl” painting, I got a martini glass and filled it with vodka.”

“I wanted the Flat Iron building cityscape in my “Marilyn/ Pumpkin” painting, I shipped the canvas to NYC and paint the cityscape at 5th Avenue and 23rd Street “plein air” directly in front of the building.”
